PPG Game Of The Year 2024 - 14 - The Best Zelda Inspired Games

There's just something about the Zelda style adventure that is enchanting and joyous. Despite this year's Echoes of Wisdom releasing and being pretty excellent, there's still several other games here I would argue stand head and shoulders with both it and the classics of the form.

Halcyon Days
Indie Mega Man Legends
Inspired by a very specific niche game in Mega Man Legends, this one does a commendable job filling its specific niche. It may be a bit buggy, but its fun open world 3D platforming with blocky aesthetics is enough for this niche fandom.

Astor: Blade of the Monolith
Colourful Heyday Adventure
Reminiscent of early PS2 titles with a more up to date graphical feel, there's a bit of Zelda and a bit of DmC present here across a pretty meaty adventure.

KAKU: Ancient Seal
Classic 3D Adventure Modernized
A vibrant 3D action platformer with an open world filled with puzzles, exploration and combat. Really surprised this hasn't gotten more attention with its popping colours, fun abilities and mystery filled world. A very close runner up for the title of best Zelda inspired game of 2024.

Wéko The Mask Gatherer
3D Character Action Adventure
Really surprised this got mostly missed by Zelda: Ocarina of Time fans. A grand adventure about collecting 7 mystical masks, an expanding open world, solve in-world puzzles and plenty more.

REAL WEB LEGENDS: Carter's Quest (EA)
N64 Action RPG
N64 era aesthetics meets character action RPG. It's actually kind of wild how expansive this is in play styles, genre and cutscenes. Punching above its weight considerably.

Mixed Magic Hack And Slash
Great story of a burnt out lawyer going on a holiday to slay monsters and find herself. Fun dungeon crawling and social relationship building mechanics, excellent loop of adventuring, combat and relaxing time back in town. Gorgeous art style.
