E3 2017 - Predictions
E3 is right around the corner, with more news, trailers and announcements than you can count blasting at you from all sides. Here we’re going to breakdown what we expect to see at the big conferences set to dazzle the world come June 11. Before we get into it - it’s worth noting that everything mentioned here is complete prediction - None of this comes from inside info. We’ll see how right we are this time next week!
Guaranteed
Sports games, Star Wars, Need For Speed
Long shot prediction:
EA arts game, along the lines of Unravel
Notes
This presentation is likely to be fairly straightforward and potentially a tad boring, especially without legend Peter Moore to keep the attention of the crowd - I don’t envy whoever is filling that role.
Guaranteed
New Wolfenstein, Evil Within 2, Fallout VR, Dishonored 2/Prey DLC, Quake Champions
Long shot prediction
A New main property from Bethesda Game Studio. Fallout/Elder Scrolls in size and scope and maybe engine (same one going forward for the other two franchises at least.) My guess is one of two settings - modern day or space age (likely space western.)
Notes
Bethesda has proven themselves to hold a stable of IP’s, in no small part to the inclusion of id properties. The headliner of the show is likely to be Quake Champions, with a release date of this holiday season in tow. The new Wolfenstein game will have a title along the lines of Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.
Guaranteed
Scorpio Breakdown, Forza Motorsport, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, Assassins Creed Origins
Long shot prediction
Halo spin off title, in the vein of ODST
Notes
Microsoft has a lot to prove this E3 - whether Scorpio is worth it and what kind of games lineup Microsoft has to offer now that several of it’s big exclusives were cancelled (Fable Legends, Scalebound.) We have a chance at seeing Gigantic, a 3rd person MOBA that was announced at the same time as Overwatch. Microsoft may be partnering with WB if they’re smart, which would bring Shadow of War to the party, as well as an announcement of Rocksteady’s new non-Batman game. Everything will be pushed as “better on Scorpio”. Oh, and Scorpio is going to be called the Xbox One Elite, or maybe just Xbox Elite.
Guaranteed
Killing Floor 3, PUBG, Pillars of Eternity 2, AMD
Long shot prediction
Who knows?
Notes
The PC Game Show is probably the biggest question mark, because it typically runs through so many different games. Likely will be the one to watch for the more interesting games.
Guaranteed
AC Origins, Far Cry 5, Just Dance, The Crew 2, Ghost Recon Wildlands DLC, South Park, A brand new IP
Long shot prediction
Ubiart game(s)
Notes
Ubisoft has been pretty predicable over the past few years, even if their conference is more like a stage play. Uni has already mentioned in an investor call that a brand new IP is to be released in the next fiscal year, which will likely be a shared world type game (last year’s was Steep.) Ubiart games have been kind of quiet for a while apart from Grow Home 2, so we might see something more along the lines of Child of Light or Valiant Hearts. Far Cry 5 an AC Origins will headline.
Guaranteed
Mario Odyssey, Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Switch & Warriors
Long shot prediction
A new Metroid gets a logo
Notes
Nintendo’s presentation is the shortest, so it will be interesting to see if they try and focus on just Mario or if they try and hit several games with quick succession. A new Metroid is super unlikely and would be a ways off even if it were in development, but if it is we might get a logo to make fans loose their shit.
Guaranteed
God of War, Days Gone, Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part 2, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Knack 2, Destiny 2, Cod WW2, Death Stranding
Long shot prediction
Spyro 1 through 3 remake, similar to Crash N’Sane trilogy
Notes
God of War headlines, not coming until 2018. Days Gone is this holiday. Hell blade may get some screen time, as might Crash. Spyro might be a potential nostalgia play, but may be next year if Crash is successful.
There you have it folks. Come back next week for a breakdown of what actually happened, to get all the exciting news and see how wrong we were!
