PPG Game Of The Year 2024 - 59 - The Best DLC
More and more indie devs are focusing more on providing interesting extra content on existing games for their existing audiences, to fantastic results. Once more, indie devs are showing AAA publishers how it's done.
Old World - Wonders & Dynasties
Layered DLC Expansion
This DLC expansion adds a whole host of new content expanding on the main game by quite a large magnitude, from new events, character traits, characters bonuses and the like. Great addition to an already fun 4X.
Eastward - Octopia
New Genre Side Content
This DLC adds a whole new essentially side game to the main one in the form of a farming sim. It's cool to see the lead characters of the beloved RPG in a less fraught setting.
ASTLIBRA Gaiden: The Cave of Phantom Mist
Parallel Side Story
A meaty side story to the main game with more of a focus on the combat. More of what the main game such a beloved indie hit.
Suzerain: Kingdom of Rizia
New Story, New Challanges
A whole new realm, with different challenges, different ruling styles and a whole host of new events to balance as you lead your kingdom to (hopefully) prosperity.
Wartales - The Tavern Opens!
New Optional Activity
A side addition to the main hustle of the game where you get to run your own tavern, building up from a run down shack to the pride of the continent.
The Last Spell - Dwarves of Runenberg
Additional Systems Overlay
Played the main game so much you can finish it with your hands tied behind your back? This DLC offers extra systems, a new race, a new map, new weapons/abilities and more to get stuck into.
Old World - Behind The Throne
New Mechanical Complexity
Layering on top of the already robust systems in the main game, this DLC adds "the machinations of the royal court with new mechanics, rivalries, and the ability to leverage your power" for political gain.
Fallout: London
Full Fan Made Open World RPG
While this is a mod that could be a whole game in itself, it does require Fallout 4 to download and run, so (free) DLC it is. If you know and love fallout, it's an obvious get. Has had some steady bug fixes since it's slightly rough launch.
Hero's Adventure - Her Vanishing Silhouette
Integrated Expansion
Add in a new female companion, new sect to join, new events, endings and achievements. Great extra content for those who love the base game!
Dredge - The Iron Rig
New Area Expansion
More Dredge in just about every way. A new area with a new story, new fish to catch, new equipment and upgrades, even a larger boat.
Gas Station Simulator - Car Junkyard DLC
New Style of Play Expansion
Honestly probably could have just been it's own game. A neat expansion to the main simulator game where you take a car junkyard from zero to successful business.
Against the Storm - Keepers of the Stone
Base Game Expansion
Adding in a new race, buildings, orders and more. A great layered addition for those that have mastered the base game and are looking to add another layer of complexity over the top of existing systems.
Potionomics - Boss Finn Content Pack + Enhancements Update
Extra Content + Free Major Additions
A side DLC adding a new character and relationship path as the main DLC, but the update to the main game 2 years after release is the showstopper: an endless mode, full voice acting, controller support and polyamory.
STRAFTAT: Weapons, Maps and Hats
Double The Game
A cheap, massive optional expansion that doubles the amount of maps, adds weapons and a bunch of fun hats to an already FREE 1v1 shooter. Insane value and a dev worth supporting.
Slay The Princess - Pristine Cut
Directors Cut Extension
A free update to an already stellar game that increases the base game's content by 35%, including tons of new dialogue, music, an ending and much more.
Wandering Sword - Echoes of Ash and Dust
Free Major Addition
An already fantastic and generous game adds a boatload of free content, just because. A whole new full feature storyline provides a meaty side adventure to dig into, amongst a host of other additions.
Stacklands 2000
New Setting
Take the original Stacklands idea of stacking cards to build out a living for your little people and transpose that to modern day city life.
1428: Shadows over Silesia - Tourney at the Bear Rock
Side Content
A whole new discreet area off from the main game, set around a tourney with different styles of minigames, which of course involves a wee bit of jousting.
And The Best DLC Of 2024 Is…
Not For Broadcast: The Timeloop
Separate Side Story
The final expansion to the main game goes out on the highest of high notes. Similar mechanically to the OG with a few twists, and of course a time loop is involved. Nothing out there like it. A fitting high end for a wonderful and underappreciated game.
