Screw Call of Duty (AKA Best FPS)
I’m not really one for shooters these days, particularly military shooters. Except for Wolfenstein. Fuck nazi’s / fascists. So in Lieu of no good first person shooters coming out in 2022, it’s once again up to the indie scene to provide the goods - and the goods, my friends… they were provided.
These aren’t all of the great indie shooters out this year - these are simply a list of ones that caught my eye for offering something different, rather than simply being the next (incredible) boomer shooter.
Symbiotic
Free
Not only does this roguelike FPS have a sweet art style, but it’s hook - that while you only have one gun, it mutates and evolves alongside you as you play - is extremely cool. Pretty great for the price of free!
Vacancy Unlimited
A cool little shooter with some interesting skills and abilities thrown into the mix.
CULTIC
Has demo
OK, I had to include one (incredible) boomer shooter on the list. CULTIC was quite highly anticipated prior to launch, and it’s chapter one release has certainly not disappointed. It’s pixelly, it’s grungy, it’s gibby and it’s got dynamite.
ADACA
Has demo
Mashing up Fallout, Half Life and a dash of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a hell of a combo, and ADACA pulls it off incredibly well given it’s created by a single person. With a linear story mode and a separate open world exploration mode at your disposal, there’s plenty to keep you busy here. Including, of course, a gravity gun.
